My Gear
Guitar
My acoustic/electric guitar is a Taylor 114ce which I bought from the Albany Rockshop in January. The staff were super helpful when I was choosing what I wanted and let me have a play with the guitars whenever I would go in. Before purchasing this guitar I did quite a bit of research into brands and models to see what would be best for me. I landed on this one as it seemed like it was suitable for beginners all the way up to advanced. I’ve had a lot of compliments on it at gigs and it has such a lovely warm sound that I think goes well with my voice.
I currently use a Jim Dunlop capo and I have a little bag of random plectrums I collected throughout my high school years. My Mojo clip-on tuner came free with the guitar and it’s super handy. The guitar strap I currently use is also from Taylor.
Equipment
For gigs I have a Roland Street Cube Amp and I recently bought a stand to go with it too, both purchased from the Rockshop. The stand has come in handy, as it’s nice to have the amp be elevated so it sounds clearer. I would highly recommend this amp if you are a busker or want to have gear that is easy to move around. This amp is really light to carry yet it still has volume. I only ever use two inputs (guitar and vocals) but I believe you can have up to four!
When I record songs or videos from home I use Logic Pro X on my MacBook Pro 13inch. My recording microphone is a Rode NT1 Compressor Microphone and I use a Komplete Audio 6 Interface to connect it to my laptop.
My performance microphone is a Sennheiser but I’m not sure what model, as it was passed on to me. I always use a Hercules mic stand, which is super sturdy, and an Ashton music stand. When I play gigs I like to have a print out of all of the songs in my set list on the ground, that way it’s easy to see them all and choose what to play next. I also keep my two folders of music on my music stand as a prompt if there are any songs that I don’t know off by heart.
Extras
I always carry a bag with me to gigs and try not to remove anything in case I leave it behind. This will include things like spare batteries for my guitar and amp, fairy lights, blue tac, screwdriver, business cards, tissues, sunblock in the summer and pegs for windy days. Sometimes I will bring my own fold down chair, I prefer to stand when I play, but playing for four hours can sometimes be tiring. Sometimes I will bring along a fold down trolley which I bought from Mitre 10 if I need to carry my gear a long distance.
